How do I find the buttons for the mapped pastures?
Select the pasture you would like to edit or take notes on to open the item summary.
Buttons
There are six green buttons that appear when you have opened the pasture’s item summary.
- Subdivide
- Boundaries
- Edit
- Notes
- Records
- Forage Forecast
Beneath the buttons, you will find the pasture specific information: area, perimeter, rest days, and grass type.
Subdivisions
Implementing the use of temporary fencing for adaptive multi paddock grazing on your ranch is a wonderful regenerative practice.
Creating subdivisions: Select the pasture you want to subdivide > click the subdivide button > begin drawing your subdivision lines (you should see a color change when you have successfully created a new subdivision) > name the subdivision > save
Best practice for subdivisions example: if you were to divide the pasture into four equal sections, draw the north - south boundary first, and then draw the east - west second using only two lines. This will ensure there are five intersecting points in the creation process.
Boundaries
The boundaries button refers to the exterior boundary of the select pasture. When it is selected, you will see the length of all sides of the pasture and its area in acres / hectares.
Adjusting exterior boundaries: Select the pasture you need to adjust > select the boundaries button > click on the fence post that you want to move and drag it to its new location > Done to save
Edit
The edit button allows you to rename the pasture, enter the grasses found in the pasture, enter the percent of available dry matter. To save any adjustments, click the green floppy disk in the top right corner.
How do I delete a pasture? On the map, select the pasture you want to delete, click edit, then click the trash bin in the top right corner.
Notes
The notes feature allows you to annotate specific points in the pasture and write a note for the whole pasture, enter the available grazing days for the pasture for the ongoing season, available dry matter in lbs/acre, and upload a photo. To save any adjustments made, click the green floppy disk in the top right corner.
Records
The records button will display notes and grazing events in the pasture.
Forage Forecast
The forage forecast tracks the recorded available dry matter in pounds per acre based on baseline and manually recorded entries. As the herd consumes the forage, the Taken so far measurement is calculated.
