The Ranch tab is where you manage your ranch's location details, the calculation settings PastureMap uses across the app, your grazing seasons, and your map and report exports. Open Settings and click the Ranch tab.
The Ranch tab, showing ranch details and calculation preferences.
Editing your ranch details
Ranch details cover your ranch's name and location: Name, Address, City, State / Province, Postal code, and Country.
- Click EDIT under Ranch details.
- Update any of the fields.
- Click SAVE. To discard your changes, click CANCEL.
Setting your calculation preferences
Calculation Preferences hold the values PastureMap uses for calculations across the app, such as Animal Days per Hectare. There are two values you can set:
- Standard Animal Unit - the reference animal weight, in pounds. The default is 1000 lb.
- Standard Daily DMI (% of body weight) - the daily dry matter intake as a percentage of body weight. The default is 3%.
PastureMap multiplies these two values to set your Animal Unit Day, shown below the fields (for example, 30.00 lb). This updates automatically as you change the values.
- Click EDIT under Calculation Preferences.
- Enter the Standard Animal Unit in pounds.
- Enter the Standard Daily DMI as a percentage of body weight.
- Click SAVE.
Standard Animal Unit and Standard Daily DMI combine to set your Animal Unit Day.
Note: The Season start date shown here comes from your active season. You change it by starting or activating a season, not from this screen. See Managing seasons below.
Managing seasons
Seasons let you separate your records and metrics for each grazing season. The Seasons list shows each season with its date range and status. Your current season shows Active and runs through Ongoing. A past season shows an Activate link you can click to switch back to it. The pencil icon next to a season's start date lets you edit that date.
Starting a new season
Starting a new season keeps your existing records and your map layout. Your subdivisions carry over unchanged into the new season, and you can adjust any boundaries or subdivisions at any time afterward.
- Click START NEW SEASON.
- A dialog explains that a new season separates your records and metrics by grazing season. Click NEXT.
- If you use PastureMap on other devices, sync them first (see the note below). Click IT'S FINE to continue.
- Choose the new season start date on the calendar, then click PICK DATE.
Choosing the start date for a new season.
Note: If you use PastureMap on other devices, open the app on each device and sync before you start a new season. Records that belong to the old season will not sync up afterward.
Switching seasons
Once more than one season has been created, you can switch which season is active. There are two ways to do this:
- From the account menu - open the account name menu in the top right corner, choose Switch Season, then select the season you want.
- From the Seasons list - click Activate next to the completed season you want to make active.
Switch Season in the account name menu.
Note: Switch Season appears in the account menu only after you have created more than one season. With a single season, there is nothing to switch between.
Note: When you are viewing a past season, a red Past Season bubble appears in each module to remind you that you are not in your current season.
