Use the Draw Pasture tool to outline a new pasture directly on the satellite map using your mouse.
Before You Start
You need to be on the Map page. Click ‘Map’ in the top navigation bar to get there. If you have an existing boundary drawn click Center on Ranch in the Ranch Overview panel (home icon in the sidebar) to recenter your view to continue drawing.
Tip: Zoom in on your property before you start. The closer your zoom level, the more accurately you can place boundary points. Use the satellite imagery to trace fence lines, roads, and natural boundaries.
Draw a Pasture
- Click the Add Items icon (plus-square) in the left sidebar. The Add Items panel opens.
- Click Draw Pasture. The Draw Pasture panel opens and the map enters drawing mode.
- Click on the map to place your first boundary point. You need at least 3 points to create a pasture. Your drawing will snap to existing pasture boundaries automatically.
- Continue clicking to place each corner point along the pasture boundary. Each click adds a new point connected by a straight line to the previous one.
- Double-click to finish drawing, or click back on your first point to close the shape. To remove the last point you placed, right-click anywhere on the map.
-
Review your boundary in the Edit Pasture Boundaries panel. Drag points to adjust, click a line to add a new point, or right-click a point to delete it. If the shape is significantly off, click Redraw to start over from scratch. Otherwise click Next when you’re satisfied.
-
Enter a name for the pasture and click Save.
Your pasture will appear on the map with its name label and boundary highlighted in orange.
Troubleshooting
I clicked on the map but nothing happened
Drawing mode has to be activated first. Go back to the toolbar, click the Add Items icon (the square icon with a plus sign), then click Draw Pasture. Once the Draw Pasture panel is open, the map is ready to accept clicks.
The pasture shape looks wrong after saving
You can edit the boundary after saving. Click the pasture on the map to open the detail panel, then click the rectangle boundary icon (next to the pencil icon) at the top of the panel to enter boundary editing mode. See How to Edit or Delete a Pasture.
Next Step
Once your pastures are drawn, you can split them into individual grazing sections using the Subdivide tool. See How to Add Subdivisions.
