Manage Subdivisions lets you edit the boundary lines of a pasture that's already been subdivided. You can drag points, add or delete lines, and rename the resulting subdivisions. The flow uses the same Review and Name steps as Subdivide, but it skips the initial Draw step and jumps straight to Review.
Open Manage Subdivisions
- Click the parent pasture or any of its subdivisions on the map. The Item Summary panel opens.
- Click Manage Subdivisions at the bottom of the panel.
Edit the subdivision lines
Manage Subdivisions opens directly to the Review Subdivisions panel with your existing lines and subdivision boundaries shown on the map. From here you can adjust what's already there or add more lines.
Adjustment options are the same as in Subdivide:
- Drag points on a line to adjust the subdivision boundaries.
- Click on a line to add a new point.
- Right-click on a point to delete it.
- Click Add More Lines to draw additional lines, or Delete Lines to remove existing ones.
As you edit, the Total Fencing summary and each subdivision's area update in real time. When the lines look right, click Next (Name) to continue.
Naming your subdivisions
The Name Subdivisions panel works the same as in Subdivide. Enter a name for each subdivision and click Next to continue.
NOTE: When you edit existing lines, the original subdivision names (for example, “South Fork - lower”) are not preserved. The affected subdivisions are renumbered (for example, “South Fork - Subdivision 3” and “South Fork - Subdivision 4”). Rename them before continuing if you want to keep your original naming. |
Adjust herd moves (if applicable)
If a herd is currently grazing in one of the affected subdivisions, the Adjust Herd Moves panel appears next so you can decide where the herd goes.
Move the herd into a subdivision
- On the Move tab, click Select from list to choose where the herd should move.
- Confirm or adjust the move date, time, and any other details.
- Click Save Subdivisions & Other Changes to finish.
Suspend the herd instead of moving it
If you don't want to assign the herd to a new subdivision yet, click the Suspend tab. Suspending pauses the herd's grazing record at the time you set, leaves the herd unassigned, and saves the subdivision changes.
On the Suspend tab:
- The header reads Suspend [herd name].
- The previous grazing location is shown as inactive.
- The Until date and time default to the current moment. Adjust these if you want the suspension to begin later.
- Click Save Subdivisions & Other Changes to finish.
NOTE: When you suspend a herd, its icon disappears from the map because the herd is no longer assigned to a grazing location. To restore the herd to the map, move it into a new pasture from the Herds screen. See Subdivision Troubleshooting for more. |
If no herd is involved, your changes save directly after the Name step.
Troubleshooting
If line edits aren't being applied
If clicking on the map during edits doesn't behave as expected, check the following:
- Confirm you are clicking on or near an existing line. Drag-to-adjust only works on points; clicks on empty map area do nothing.
- Make sure you're not in Add More Lines mode unintentionally. The cursor and panel state will indicate which mode you're in.
- If changes still don't appear, refresh the page and start Manage Subdivisions again.
If existing subdivision names changed unexpectedly
When you edit existing subdivision lines, the names of the affected subdivisions are not preserved. They are renumbered as “Subdivision 3,” “Subdivision 4,” and so on at the Name step. This is expected: changing the boundaries creates new subdivision records, so the old names don't carry over.
Before saving, rename each subdivision back to whatever you want it to be called. If you've already saved, click the subdivision on the map and use the edit (pencil) icon in the Item Summary panel to rename it.
If Manage Subdivisions is missing from the Item Summary
Manage Subdivisions only appears on pastures that have active subdivisions. If you don't see it:
- Confirm the pasture has been subdivided. A plain pasture with no subdivisions shows the Subdivide button instead.
- Scroll the Item Summary panel. The action may be below the visible area depending on your screen size.
