Retire Subdivisions removes all subdivisions from a pasture and restores it as a single grazeable unit. The original parent pasture is restored with its full acreage, and the subdivisions are marked as retired in the activity feed.
NOTE: Retire Subdivisions is all-or-nothing. Every subdivision in the parent pasture is retired in a single step. If you want to keep some boundaries and remove others, use Manage Subdivisions to delete specific lines instead. |
Opening the Retire Subdivisions flow
- Click the parent pasture or any of its subdivisions on the map. The Item Summary panel opens.
- Click Retire Subdivisions at the bottom of the panel.
Reviewing subdivisions to retire
The Review Subdivisions to Retire panel shows how many subdivisions will be retired and how many herds need to be moved before the action can be completed.
If one or more herds are currently grazing in subdivisions that will be retired, a yellow Herds Require Movement callout appears. Click Configure Herd Movements to continue, or Cancel to exit.
Configuring herd movements
The Adjust Herd Movements panel appears for each herd that needs to be relocated. Use the Move tab to send the herd into a different pasture, or use the Suspend tab to pause its grazing record.
Moving the herd into another pasture
- On the Move tab, click Select from list to choose a destination pasture for the herd.
- Confirm or adjust the move date, time, and any other details.
- Click Retire Subdivisions & Save Changes. This button is disabled until a target is chosen.
Suspending the herd instead of moving it
If you don't want to assign the herd to a new pasture yet, click the Suspend tab. Suspending pauses the herd's grazing record at the time you set and leaves the herd unassigned.
On the Suspend tab:
- The header reads Suspend [herd name].
- The previous grazing location is shown as inactive.
- The Until date and time default to the current moment. Adjust these if you want the suspension to begin later.
- Click Retire Subdivisions & Save Changes to finish.
NOTE: When you suspend a herd, its icon disappears from the map because the herd is no longer assigned to a grazing location. To restore it, go to the Herds screen and move it into a new pasture. The icon will reappear on the map after the move is recorded. |
Confirming and saving
When you click Retire Subdivisions & Save Changes, a confirmation dialog asks you to verify the action. Click Yes to retire the subdivisions, or No to go back without saving.
After retiring
The parent pasture is restored on the map as a single grazeable unit, with no subdivision lines. The Most Recent Activity feed shows the herd move into its new pasture, and the retired subdivision appears in the newsfeed with a (retired) tag.
The Item Summary for the parent pasture now shows the Subdivide action again, and Manage Subdivisions, Convert to Pastures, and Retire Subdivisions are no longer available. You can subdivide the pasture again from here using the same flow described in Subdividing a Pasture.
Troubleshooting
If Retire Subdivisions is missing from the Item Summary
Retire Subdivisions only appears on pastures that have active subdivisions. If you don't see it:
- Confirm the pasture has been subdivided. A plain pasture with no subdivisions shows the Subdivide button instead.
- Scroll the Item Summary panel. The action may be below the visible area depending on your screen size.
