Suspending grazing tells PastureMap that a herd has stopped grazing. The herd's icon comes off the map, but the herd and its grazing history stay in PastureMap. Use it when a herd is not grazing any pasture for a period, such as time spent in a holding area off pasture. When the herd goes back onto pasture, you resume grazing from the Herds page and its icon returns to the map.
Suspending grazing
- Click the herd icon on the map, then click Suspend Grazing in the panel.
- The Suspend form opens, showing the pasture the herd is grazing. Set the Until date and time. This is when the herd stopped grazing, and it defaults to now.
- Optionally open Additional information to add a note.
- Click Save. The herd's icon is removed from the map. The herd and its grazing history remain in PastureMap.
Tip: Suspending grazing does not delete the herd or its history. You can resume it at any time.
Tip: To send a herd straight to another pasture, use Move instead of Suspend Grazing, so the herd stays active and on the map.
Resuming grazing
To put a suspended herd back on pasture, move it back in from the Herds page.
- Open the Herds page. On the Live Herds tab, a suspended herd shows a Move Into Pasture button in the Grazing in column.
- Click Move Into Pasture.
- Choose the pasture you want and save. The herd is recorded as grazing again and its icon returns to the map.
