The Rainfall panel shows rainfall data for your measurement point(s) as either a graph or a calendar log. You can adjust the date range, switch between measurement points, and add or update individual rainfall readings.
Measurement points pull weather data from Open-Meteo using map coordinates. They are different from Rain Gauge infrastructure markers, which simply show where a physical rain gauge is located on your ranch.
Opening the Rainfall Panel
- Click the Rainfall icon (cloud) in the map navigation bar. The Rainfall panel opens.
Viewing Rainfall Data
The Rainfall panel offers two ways to view your data: a graph showing trends over time, and a calendar log of individual readings. Switch between them using the Graph and Rainfall Events tabs at the top of the panel.
Use the Since and Until date fields to set the time range for the graph or event log. Click each field to open a date picker and select your start and end dates.
Rainfall Graph
The panel defaults to the Graph view, which shows a bar chart of daily rainfall (Daily, in red) and a cumulative line (To date, in grey) over your selected date range. The y-axis shows inches of rain and the x-axis shows the date range.
Rainfall Events
Click the Rainfall Events tab to switch from the graph to a calendar-style log showing individual rainfall readings day by day. Each day with a recorded value shows the amount.
In the calendar view:
- Days with recorded rainfall show the amount in inches.
- Days with no rainfall show a dash (-).
- Future dates appear grayed out and cannot be edited.
- Use the month selector at the top of the calendar to navigate to a different month.
Selecting a Measurement Point
If you have multiple measurement points set up on your ranch, use the Select measurement point dropdown at the top of the panel to switch between them. The data updates to show readings for the selected point.
| NOTE: Most subscription options include one measurement point by default. The Pro subscription includes six, which is the maximum any subscription can have. Lower-tier subscriptions can be upgraded to add measurement points up to that six-point limit. |
Setting a default measurement point
To the right of the dropdown, click the star icon to set the currently selected measurement point as your default. The default measurement point loads automatically each time you open the Rainfall panel.
Renaming a measurement point
Click the pencil icon to the right of the dropdown to rename the currently selected measurement point.
Moving a measurement point
Click the hand icon to the right of the pencil to reposition the currently selected measurement point on the map. The header changes to Move Measurement Point with instructions to drag the point to its new location.
| ⚠ Warning: Moving a measurement point will delete all weather data currently associated with it. Once you save the new position, the previous data cannot be recovered. |
To move a measurement point:
- Click the hand icon next to the measurement point dropdown.
- Drag the measurement point on the map to its new location.
- Click SAVE to confirm, or BACK to cancel without moving.
Adding or Editing a Rainfall Reading
You can record a new rainfall reading or update an existing one for any past or current date.
- Click the Rainfall Events tab to switch to the calendar view.
- Navigate to the month containing the date you want to record.
- Click a day. A blue circle appears around the selected date. The input field at the bottom of the panel updates to show Rainfall for [selected date].
- Enter the rainfall amount in inches in the input field. Existing values can be overwritten.
- Click SAVE to record the reading.
Troubleshooting
- I don't see any rainfall data. Make sure you have a measurement point selected in the dropdown. Also confirm the Since and Until dates cover a period with recorded readings.
- My measurement points aren't visible on the map. Open the Data Layers panel and confirm the Measurement Points toggle under Show Monitoring is turned on. See Customizing Map Display Options for details.
- I can't enter data for a future date. Future dates are disabled because no data is available yet. You can only add or edit readings for past or current dates.
- I want to add a new measurement point but can't. Adding additional measurement points may require an upgraded subscription. Contact PastureMap support for details.
