Purpose of this article
PastureMap has an updated map view. This article walks you through what’s different and where to find what you need.
What’s happening and when
We continue to improve PastureMap to stay current with the latest mapping technologies. We previously released a newer version of our map view and gave users the option to try it early. At the end of June 2026, we will be retiring the old map view and all users will move to the updated version automatically.
No action is required on your part. If you have already switched to the new map view, you’re all set. If you have not switched yet, you will be moved over automatically at the end of June.
If you have any questions or run into issues after the cutover, please reach out to PastureMap support for assistance.
What’s different
The new map view covers the same core functionality you’re used to, reorganized for faster access and a cleaner experience. Here’s a rundown of what’s changed.
Map home
Before: Ranch overview showing acre and animal counts, recent activity, and planned moves. Pasture outlines shown as thin white borders with no fill.
Now: Same overview with the same information, plus pastures and paddocks are now color-filled on the map so you can see grazing status at a glance without clicking anything.
Search
Before: A single search bar for pasture names and map addresses.
Now: Search now covers your full ranch — pastures, herds, and infrastructure are searchable from the map. Address search is available via a toggle (off by default).
Adding items to your map
Before: Import boundary files or draw new ranch boundaries. Add infrastructure. Import soil data.
Now: Import boundary files (GeoJSON now supported in addition to KML) or draw new boundaries. Add and move infrastructure. Note that soil data has moved — you’ll now find it inside the pasture detail panel.
Pasture Details
Before: At-a-glance view of a pasture including acreage, animal count, and forage forecast.
Now: Same pasture detail with acreage, grazable area percentage, rest days, and forage forecast all visible at a glance. NRCS soil data estimates are now available directly in the panel. Editing pasture boundaries opens a dedicated full-screen mode with on-map controls.
Rainfall
Before: Manual rain fall entry by day or through CSV upload. Link to available NOAA weather stations
Now: Automatic linkage to available OpenMetero weather stations, eliminating the need for manual or CSV data upload. Includes a new graph visualization in addition to calendar month view of rainfall totals. You can now add additional rainfall measurement points across your ranch. Weather points can be edited and relocated as needed, as well as the ability to designate a point as the primary measurement point. Lastly, measurement points are their own data layer that can be turned on or off.
Photos
Photos you’ve taken in the PastureMap mobile app are now viewable from the map on web. Photos are organized by pasture and include date stamps so you can track how your land is changing over time. You can also add photos on web when adding hay events or adding pasture notes.
Other changes you may notice
- The map toolbar is now horizontal across the top of the panel. All the same tools are there, with the addition of the new Photos panel.
- The toolbar can be collapsed to give you more map canvas. Click the orange arrow on the left side of the toolbar to toggle it.
- A “Center on Ranch” button on the home panel brings your full ranch boundary back into view with one click.
- Your account name now appears in the top right of the screen rather than your ranch name.
- New Export KML functionality available in the Tools menu. Tailor your export to also include herd locations and/or infrastructure. You can even specify one or more paddocks to export vs. your full ranch.
- Data Layers provides more customization of pasture color and opacity, as well as better visualization of rest days.
- Editing pasture boundaries is now a dedicated full-screen mode rather than a pop-up modal. You can now preview all subdivisions in one view. Click on a map during edit to highlight it or change name.
- Pastures tab now includes a pasture name search to quickly locate your pasture, as well as quick filters to order pastures by last activity, name, area or creation date, sorted ascending or descending. Clicking on a name opens a preview.
- Pastures view modal action buttons are now associated with respective uses for the pasture and subdivisions of the pasture
