As your herd grows, you can add more animals to it at any time. You can enter the animals by hand in the app, or import them from a spreadsheet.
Adding animals
- From the Herds page, select the herd you want to add animals to.
- Select the green Add Animals button below the weight chart. The Add Animals window opens.
- Enter the Number of animals you are adding. This field is required.
- Set In herd since to the date the animals joined the herd. It defaults to today.
- Set the Last Weigh Date, and fill in any optional details: Weight, Target ADG, and Est DMI (defaults to 3%).
- Select Add. The animals are added, an Added entry appears in the herd's history, and the Live Animals count goes up.
| Note: Weight is optional, but animals added without one come in at 0 lb and pull down the herd's average weight. Enter a weight when you have it. |
| Note: Adding animals pop-up only records a head count and average details for the group, not individual records. To add specific animal IDs or per-animal weights, use the spreadsheet import described below. |
Adding animals from a spreadsheet
If you already track the animals in a spreadsheet, you can import them into the herd instead of entering each one by hand. The spreadsheet holds the animals you are adding to this herd.
- In the Add Animals window, select Add From XLS File at the top.
- Under Step One, select Download to get the template. Open it in Excel and add your animal records, using the column labels exactly as they appear in the template.
- Under Step Two, drag your completed file into the upload area, or select Browse to choose it.
- Select Next. PastureMap shows a Does this look correct? screen listing each animal from your file. Review the records. If anything looks wrong, select Back, fix your file, and upload it again. When the records look right, select Ok.
- The Add Animals window fills in with your imported animals. Select Add to add them to the herd.
| Note: The template marks only Animal ID as required, but the import will not finish unless every animal also has a valid First Day on Pasture and Last Weight Date. If either is missing, the upload will fail. Add the dates to your file and upload it again. |
